The workshop on personalized phage therapy was both an energizing and humbling experience. Being invited to speak at the Workshop on Personalized Phage Therapy: From the Lab to the Patient felt like a true milestone, especially in a setting that integrates cutting-edge scientific research with clinical practice. Organized by the Belgian Society for Viruses of Microbes, this two-day event brought together an inspiring mix of researchers and young phage enthusiasts to explore every aspect of phage therapy, from its history and regulatory framework to hands-on lab work on phage isolation, characterization, and production.
My sincere thanks to the outstanding organizing team and hosts for creating such a constructive, open atmosphere and for sharing their deep expertise from the Queen Astrid Military Hospital’s pioneering magistral phage program. The combination of lectures and practical sessions left me not only with new ideas for collaboration, but also reinforced just how powerful carefully designed, personalized phage therapy can be for patients who have run out of options.
